]]> With it’s delicate lilac blue flowers shimmering in the sunlight English Lavender causes a haze that is a delight to the eye. Commonly considered to be a herb, lavender is a hardy herbaceous perennial with a woody stem, which can grow to 2 or 3 feet tall. Lavender is sometimes used for hedging.  We recommend shaping in spring, with only light pruning otherwise.

English lavender prefers sandy or chalky soil, with lots of sun, and definitely not clay or any heavy wet soils. The aroma, lighter and sweeter than French lavender, is distinctive and provides dried herbs, which have medicinal as well as culinary uses. But most often grown simply for it’s beauty. Lavender fits well in cottage gardens and herb beds.
