Wildflowers
Wildflowers are increasingly popular because they’re environmentally friendly, easy to maintain and weather stress resistant. They’re less in your face with their more delicate flowers, which they more than make up for with their range of colours and ability to surprise. The only real work is finding the best wildflower plug plants for your little corner of the world.
If your corner is clay and damp, it’s asking to be treat like a bog. Don’t deny it. Dive in, dig a pond use the soil to build little mounds for less water resistant additions. Small is good, pond plants are many and varied. If it’s a chalk desert do something similar, dig a little hole or ten, fill the holes with compost material to provide habitat for less drought resistant plants and build a rockery with a nice compost base with the hole material.
